The Brinkerhoffs were deeded 900 acres for their efforts in fighting in the Revolutionary War. Burtis Point on Cayuga Lake at one time was named Brinkerhoff Point.

Brinkerhoffs were noteable for their barbed wire patents which were instrumental in the expansion of the country. Their extended family were settlers associated with the early evolution of the City of Auburn.
